Remote and hybrid arrangements have moved well past their pandemic-era origins and are now a deliberate part of how growing firms and legal departments staff up. More than half of Am Law 200 firms — 55.9% — now use a flexible hybrid policy, and nearly 30% of legal professionals work remotely at least part of the time.
The opportunity is real, but uneven
Only an estimated 32% of legal roles are currently advertised as hybrid or remote. That is good news if you are willing to work in an office: less competition. But it also means firms and departments that do offer remote or hybrid arrangements are drawing from a much larger applicant pool than employers requiring full-time physical presence — so those postings tend to be more competitive.
Why employers are doing it
Beyond flexibility as a hiring perk, remote paralegal staffing has become a real cost lever: replacing an in-house paralegal role with a remote hire can save an employer roughly $30,000–$50,000 a year in fully-loaded costs. That is pushing more firms toward remote-friendly staffing even outside of major metros.
